NFL Conference Title Game Picks

Yet another week of bad picks for me. Clearly, picking playoff winners versus regular season winners is not my bag. After going 156-90 during the year, I have sputtered to a 3-5 record with 3 games left to get my head above water. Sigh… I am never going to make this a career as I had hoped. Wait a minute, that was another dream.

So, I missed going 4-0 for the week by a total of 18 points. What can I do to get some wins here? Should I suit up? Oh, I should just shut up and give you my picks for the week. I can do that.

New Orleans is going to win in Chicago. Not sure how they will do it, but it will get done. The only thing that can beat them is turnovers… and getting out scored… and bad weather… hmmmmm, okay they will win anyways. Destiny is the word for them.

Speaking of destiny, Peyton Manning and Indianapolis will lose to Tom Brady and New England yet again. The Patriots are the 800 pound gorilla that gets heavier every year for the poor Dolts.

So, there you have it. My Title game picks and ultimately, my Super Bowl picks.

New Orleans Vs. New England.

Should be one hell of a game.

George Bush the Doofus

So, our doofus of a President has decided to send more troops to Iraq- 20,000 more because the course of action we are taking there is riddled with past mistakes (his words and finally, FINALLY, his errors or so he says) and the way to correct it is to of course throw more troops and money at the problem with hope that it will help.

Now, I am not a rocket scientist nor did I sleep at that hotel they mention on T.V. a lot, but I must say that sending more troops is something we should have done a year or two ago when things were not so out of hand. Not now when the majority of America believes this war has been mishandled; that the American people think they have been mislead; and when the world looks at us with a ridiculous amount of scorn, pity and anger.

One day after his speech of defeat there are already rumblings that Congress will not approve further spending for this war (an illegal & unjustified one in my opinion- and yes, I know Saddam was a bad guy, but he did not start this war but Georgie Boy wanted it to be that way. Maybe he played the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game)

and I am not sure they are incorrect in the attempt, but I know that the Republican Right Wingers from Hell will come out of the woodwork in force to say that Democrats are against our troops-- a lot of B.S.

On this matter, there is only one clear answer:

Get out! Soon!

Pulling out of Iraq now or later is going to be hell for the Iraqi public no matter the time. They did not ask for us to give them a democracy nor invade their country yet we are going to force it on them while we are there and watch it crumble once we are gone. We went in for profit, oil and a leadership change. Well, Saddam is dead. Halliburton/Dick Cheney is making money hand over fist. Oil was to be a deciding factor in financing this war, yet all I see is American gas price's rising up to where a lot of other countries are at.

We don’t need more troops in Iraq. We need to leave and throw a blanket of money their direction and kiss their ___ for years to come.

NFL Divisional Playoff Picks

Ok, so I am trying to get over the fact that Dallas lost their playoff game at Seattle in one of the most bizarre endings you’ll see in a football game. This entire season has been a roller coaster ride if you are a fan of Big D and I for one am glad it’s over.

In a nutshell: THEY BLEW IT!

And I did not do so well for my playoff picks last weekend either- went 2-2 with my other loss in the final seconds at Philadelphia. Ironically, Philadelphia brought in a competent holder as a last minute signing for the playoffs while Dallas used their starting QB. Wonder if poor Romo will be holding next year? Wonder if they will use game balls for PAT’s instead of boxed ones?

Ok, onto the picks:

Going against conventional wisdom once again, I am taking three road teams as winners this weekend with only Baltimore as my lone holdout at home.

Baltimore is a more complete team than the Colts. Yes, they have Manning, but it will be sweet revenge as they Ravens control most of the game and win by at least ten points.

Philadelphia is the hottest team in the NFL right now (sorry Charger fans) and they take the hot hand into New Orleans where the feel good bubble will finally burst.

By all rights, Seattle should not be in this game with Chicago, but I give them the nod against the inexperienced & inconsistent Rex Grossman.

Finally in the game of the weekend, New England will find a way to win at San Diego. I don’t know how they will do it, but I find it hard to bet against Brady and Belichick in the postseason.

So there you have it: Ravens, Seahawks, Eagles & Patriots.

Pacts and Promises

There is a smart-alack saying that goes: "Don't write a check your ___ can't cash". When you hear that said to you- or if you actually say that to another person, it's usually said with a small amount of sarcasm and backed up by a tremendous amount of B.S. Most often, it is used in response to larger amounts of B.S. such as these:

  • I'll give you a million dollars win I win the lottery.
  • I'm quitting my job today and that #$*@$!%^&! can kiss my ___!
  • I'm going to kick your ___!
  • Will you marry me?

(Okay, I was kidding on the last one but you get the idea).

Most of the time I've ever said these types of things was when I was young & inexperienced and, as usual, nothing ever came from it. We are all big boasters about what we are going to do when this or that happens. Most of the time, these bombastic statements of macho virility never come back to hit you square in the face.

But what if it does?

What do you do when you made a promise to someone years ago and then you find yourself staring at the seconds hand on the clock as it swings its way around to midnight with death on the other side waiting?

What do you do and how do you keep a promise that meant so little in the scheme of things then and means everything now?

What do you do?
